The Benefits of Glazed Shower Enclosures in En-Suites

Morgane Arnaud

Although you can opt for shower curtains or plastic shower doors in en-suites and either option will provide a perfectly practical solution, glazed shower screens are preferable in numerous ways. Of course, one of the principal benefits of a glass shower enclosure in an en-suite is that you can see straight through it. This is beneficial in smaller bathrooms as well as en-suites because space will usually be at a premium. When you have a glass shower screen, it is almost as though it is not there – visually speaking, at least – so the whole room should feel larger than it really is. Why else is glazing a good choice in this sort of room?

More Natural Light

Because en-suite bathrooms are generally smaller than other rooms in the home, they will frequently have only a very modestly sized window. In turn, this means that sunlight will often be in short supply. As such, you will want to make the most of what is available. Therefore, a glass shower enclosure will be preferable since it will allow for light to come in and penetrate the room fully, perhaps reflecting back of mirrors and tiling for an airier ambience than would otherwise be possible.

Feel Warmer

When you are showering, a screen made of glass surrounding you will prevent unwanted airflow around your body. If you have a shower curtain instead, then draughts can start to develop which are not that pleasant in the winter months. Given that many en-suites only have very small radiators in them, the air temperature is often not that high either. Equally, shower curtains will sometimes billow towards you if the airflow keeps going in one direction, something that makes your shower enclosure feel even smaller than it really is. You simply won't have this problem with a solid shower screen made from high-quality, tempered glass.

Easy to Clean

Glass is a very easy material to keep clean. After showering, you should just wipe the surface over so that it does not show any marks. Because en-suite shower enclosures have very little elbow room, you will be better off with a screen that you can easily wipe down with a squeegee. Other types of screens which need more work to get them clean tend to be even more of a hassle to maintain, especially when there is limited space. Of course, glass only needs a once over every now and again to keep it looking good.
